Ask an Author Week #10: Donna Alward

Question:  What is the "coolest" or most interesting thing that has happened to you since becoming a published author?

Donna Alward: Whenever I hear someone say they’ve read my books. It doesn’t seem real and it’s definitely not something I take for granted. Fan mail is the best. And when I joined my local RWA chapter after moving, one of the women said “Oh My God! I’ve read your books!” That was a total squee surreal moment for me.

Ask an Author Week #9: Donna Alward

Question:   What is your favorite "guilty" pleasure and why?

Donna Alward: Leisure. I rarely work in the evenings because I am very protective of my down time. It could be reading or watching a favourite show, or sitting on the deck with a glass of wine, but I really enjoy the time I take to be lazy and do nothing.

Ask an Author Week #7: Donna Alward

Question: If you could meet any author in the world (dead or alive) who would it be and why?

Donna Alward: I’d like to have dinner with Jane Austen, the Brontes, Elizabeth Gaskell and George Eliot. They were true trailblazers as women and romantic authors. But in present day – I’d love to meet LaVyrle Spencer. I developed my love of romance novels from reading her books, I have them all and have read them so many times some of them are falling apart. I re-read her final novel, Then Came Heaven, last year, and seriously if I could write one book that fantastic, emotional, and beautiful before I die I think I will have achieved something great.

Ask an Author Week #6: Donna Alward

Question: What genre (if any) have you always dreamed of writing but haven't found the time and/or inspiration to write?

Donna Alward: I really want to write a single title romance – I think my stories will always have a romance core in them. But longer and more scope for subplots and characters definitely. I’m hoping to start one this spring.

Ask An Author Week #5: Donna Alward

Question: What is your favorite Season to write in and why?

Donna Alward: Fall. The colours are gorgeous, the days are mellow, the kids are back in school, and I was one of those kids that couldn’t wait for school to go back in and I think some of that spills over into my writing as a “jump in with both feet and work” enthusiasm.

Ask an Author Week #4: Donna Alward

Question: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

Donna Alward: Europe. I know. It’s a continent. But I want to travel through the UK, as well as France, Italy, Spain, some parts of Germany…I’m hoping we get to start doing that soon. My critique partner lives in England and traveling in Europe is so much easier when you’re not an ocean away. Her last 2 trips have been to Sorrento and Venice. I keep the pictures and dream.

Ask An Author Week #1: Donna Alward

Question: If you were stranded on a desert island and could only have three books with which to read for five years, which three books would you take and why?

Donna Alward: Dante’s Inferno, because it would hold me over for a good long time. The Bible, because I’ve never read it cover to cover And I’ll cheat and say I’d pick one of my Norton Anthologies from University classes because there’s a lot of reading in one of those suckers.
