Ask an Author Week #10: Michele Stegman

Question: What is the "coolest" or most interesting thing that has happened to you since becoming a published author?

Michele Stegman: I was doing a book signing when a little girl about 8 came up to the table. She asked, "Did you write these books?" I said, "Yes!" She looked around the bookstore wide-eyed and asked, "ALL of them?"

Ask an Author Week #8: Michele Stegman

Question: If you could meet any mythological or legendary creature/person, who would they be and why?

Michele Stegman: Sargon of Akkad, although he actually was a real person, there is a lot of myth about him. As unlikely as it seems, he was born so poor, but managed to become a king. That's what I love. A good rags to riches story!

Ask an Author Week #7: Michele Stegman

Question: If you could meet any author in the world (dead or alive) who would it be and why?

Michele Stegman: Shakespeare--I would just want to listen to him! What depth he gave his characters, what immortal plots, golden lines that have become cliches!

Ask an Author Week #6: Michele Stegman

Question: What genre (if any) have you always dreamed of writing but haven't found the time and/or inspiration to write?

Michele Stegman: I always planned to write straight historical fiction, such as Michener. But it takes so much research! And I keep sneaking in a romance, so I keep ending up with another historical romance instead!

Ask an Author Week #4: Michele Stegman

Question: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

Michele Stegman: I've already been to 26 countries and love to travel. I would love to take a cruise up the Yangtzee River in China. That civilization is so old and rich and just keeps going on and on. No matter how many times they've been conquered or what the government does, the Chinese culture eventually prevails--as it is beginning to do again today.

Ask An Author Week #2: Michele Stegman

Question: If you could travel back in time for a month long vacation, which Era would you visit and why?

Michele Stegman: I would hardly consider traveling in the past a vacation, but it would be fascinating! I've been to too many Third World countries not to know the dangers even in the present time of bad sanitation, water, etc. The problem is, interesting times such as the Norman Conquest, would be so dangerous! Also a lot of health concerns from drinking bad water, etc. And what about the language barrier? And unless you could quickly hook up with some noble, which is unlikely, you would just be considered vermin. So nice to read about the Middle Ages, so nice to write romantically about, but to live then, or even visit would be taking your life in your hands. Hmmm. Maybe I would just have to choose something closer to our time and place. Not nearly so interesting, but certainly safer! Such as Cincinnati in 1870? But even then there were cholera epidemics and no idea of modern medicine. Sigh. Maybe I could just have that vacation on some beach in Hawaii?

Ask An Author Week #1: Michele Stegman

Question: If you were stranded on a desert island and could only have three books with which to read for five years, which three books would you take and why?

Michele Stegman: The Bible, for consolation. The Complete Works of Shakespeare--There is a lot there to read and it can be read over and over.  An anthology of poetry--I love poetry and if it is an anthology there would be a lot of it from several authors.
