Ask An Author Week #1: Terry Irene Blain
Question: If you were stranded on a desert island and could only have three books with which to read for five years, which three books would you take and why?
Terry Irene Blain: The Bible (for the stories and the spiritual inspiration), SAS Survival Handbook (to help me remember all I learned when my sons were in Boy Scouts) and something long and that I’ve never read.Kentucky Green: Journeying to her childhood home of Kentucky, April Williamson allows nothing to deter her. Certainly not Dan McKenzie who’s duty bound to escort her. Dan believes the frontier of 1794 is no place for women. But in spite of their mutual attractions, a dark secret in his past means April cannot be his.

Hi Terry!
Good thinking, I didn't even wonder about how you'd survive past reading the books..lol
Good thing your a mom who's always prepared.
Kentucky Green sounds like a good read. I like stories written in those times, did you do a lot of research before you could write this story?

My son inspired me to start playing soccer when I was 50 years old. We used to play pick up games every Wednesday with guys from work – he being the youngest and me being the oldest.
We actually had a soccer tournament with teams from work last year when each team had to field two women, and my team won! I’ve hung up my cleats and going out a winner.

Well, I used to teach US History and Western Civilization at the college level, so I had a lot of the historical background when I started to write.
Mostly I had to research specifics of the time and setting -- and, of course, clothing (which really isn't covered in history classes).

hi and welcome Terry. Do you find a lot of research material on the internet?

I tend to do most of my research from books. Partly because I'm older than the internet and books are the way I learned to do research when I was in college.
If you're doing research on the internet you have to be careful and make sure you double and triple check your facts and anyone can be an 'authority' on the net.
Most of my research books were written by acknowledged experts in their field.
And this way I have a fine library that I can use over and over. :)
